Other suppliers concentrate on their product itself, such as green only electricity tariffs or even more recently a vegan only tariff! There are also now companies in the market offering green gas tariffs to more conscientious customers.

 

 

Then there is the so called 'big five' who seem to have been around forever. The established players in the UK energy market have the greatest customer share and offer a mix of innovative products, competitive pricing and award winning customer service.

The Suppliers

 

There are more than 50 business energy suppliers in the UK, all competing to be your energy company and offering their own unique take on what a business energy supplier should look like.   

Some suppliers are focused on delivering excellent service and maintain UK only call centres offering a range of billing and service options. They tend not to be the cheapest in the market but consistently win customers based on their online reviews and customer recommendations.

The 'Big 5'

British Gas 

Old faithful, British Gas has been there from the start and as a result are still the UK’s largest domestic energy supplier. They also have around 420,000 businesses on their books making them the largest commercial supplier too. British Gas often win customers through aggressive acquisition campaigns making them one to always keep an eye on!

SSE

SSE supplies electricity, gas, phone, boiler cover and broadband to UK homes and businesses. They have a reputation for great value energy tariffs, their style is simple and effective. Their extensive industry knowledge and experience puts them in a unique position to help your business.

E.ON 

E.ON UK is a British energy firm and is part of the wider global energy company E.ON. It is the second largest electricity and gas supplier in the UK and one of the 'big 5', originally set up in 1989 named Powergen, E.ON joined the wider E.ON global family in 2002. The company grew significantly on it acquisition of N-Power in 2020

Scottish Power

Scottish Power, part of the Iberdrola Group, a worldwide energy company and a global leader in renewable wind power. Their strategy is concentrated around energy distribution, transmission and low carbon generation, including onshore and offshore wind. A member of the 'Big 5', Scottish Power supply more than 5 million domestic and business premises across the UK.

NPower

Acquired by E.ON in 2020, Npower nmow only exists as a brand within the E.ON group. Its domestic customer base has transferred to E.ON Next and it focuses soleyl on large businesses or those with extensive portfolios of properties.

EDF

EDF Energy is an integrated energy company in the United Kingdom, with operations spanning electricity generation and the sale of gas and electricity to homes and businesses throughout the UK. It employs 13,331 people, and handles 5.7 million business and domestic customer accounts. Whilst not as high profile as the bigger companies they still have a lot to offer business energy consumers.

Opus Energy

Focussing on renewable energy only, Opus Energy Limited supplies exclusively electricity to businesses across the United Kingdom. Purchased by DRAX in 2017 is is now the primary outlet for biomass power generated at DRAX's Selby plant.

They are a customer centric organisation and added Electricity supply to their product offering in 2023.

Tommy's are the largest charity funding research into the causes of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. They also provide information for parents-to-be to help them have a healthy pregnancy and baby.

1 in 4 women experience miscarriage in their lifetimes, and 1 in 100 have 3 or more miscarriages in a row. Tommy's want to change this so that women no longer have to suffer the trauma of losing their babies.
