Clear Conversations: Alex Hamilton

Laura-Jane Davis - Head of Operations at Clear Utility Solutions

In the latest Clear Conversations, we speak with our Operations Director Alex Hamilton about building long-term partnerships, raising standards across the utilities industry, and what good service really means.

Who are you and what’s your role at Clear Utility Solutions?

My name is Alex Hamilton and I am Operations Director at Clear Utility Solutions. I have been slowly introducing my larger manufacturing/waste contacts to the business and agreeing new and more sustainable energy contracts with them. I spearhead new partnerships and assist them in navigating the energy and utilities market. I have also been working on a much larger project for the business which will be launched later this year.

Tell us a bit about your background and what brought you to CUS?

I have spend the last 15 years in corporate management roles, eventually specialising in the waste industry. Three years ago I started my own business called EnviroTechnology. This specialises in business and technology solutions, specifically for the waste and environmental sector. I was introduced to Clear Utility Solutions and it became a natural home for me with the ambition and expertise given to our customers. More recently I have been more involved in the business development side too.

What’s something you’ve learned already in your time here?

I have obviously learned a huge amount about the energy industry, how it ticks and the challenges associated around giving customers the best price - but that is linked to the surpassing level of customer care that is given to all customers, no matter how small or large they are. This contributes to the business retention when the time comes to renew.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

For me, it is being in front of the customer. I love that. I am disappointed how poor the level of care that the industry provides its customer base, so one of Clear Utility Solutions USPs is to do exactly the opposite: keep in contact with the customer.

What’s something people might not expect about you?

I could (emphasis on the could) run 10k in under 33 minutes when I was 15.

When you’re not at work, what keeps you busy?

I love to eat out at different places,I love to travel, especially Greece, and I spend quality time looking after my parents that now need our help. I'm a pretty nifty basketball player, I used to be an Ibiza DJ back in the day and still get invited out to play fairly regularly. I'm also a pretty useful chess and poker player too!

Finish this sentence: Good service is…

Guaranteed.
